Placing

flejeThe SIERRABLOCK® parts are designed to construct perfectly aligned half-brick walls. To do so, they are tongued and grooved to ensure that the parts are correctly placed.

When they are placed in a vertical alignment (as in the image), Plastic straps are placed in the tongue and groove ledges to facilitate their horizontal alignment..

To place the Parts in a row, traditional THREAD is used, held between two rulers, which mark the height of the thread level, to prevent the alignment being lost. While the Mortar is setting, the Plastic Straps are placed (as seen in the previous figure) in order to keep the Parts in place and prevent them from losing their alignment.fleje2

Gluing

pegadoGLUING the Parts is a very important process to guarantee that the Maintenance- free Façade Enclosure, that is why the process uses a “Special Mortar” that is specifically manufactured for this application by the PUMAGROUP in the same colour as the exposed side. Horizontally it is applied between the Block’s tongue and groove joints, gently and firmly placing the parts until they touch. Vertically it is applied to the Parts’ concave surface, bringing the parts together until they touch. Then the excess mortar is removed and the joints between the Parts are rejoined.

Two different water mixtures should be used: one more fluid mix for the horizontal joint (the parts must be able to be put in place), and another thicker mix for the vertical joint (so as not to hang down between the cavities in the parts).

Mortar.

A Special Mortar is used that is manufactured by the PUMA GROUP, and which meets the requirements of the UNE EN-988 Standard for WALLS. It also has the following characteristics:
mortero

  1. A very fine aggregate so that the parts can settle in the horizontal joint.
  2. Very Good Crushing Strength so that it can be used with Parts placed in Continuous Joints.
  3. Good Adherence to the Parts (as they have an Absorption <3%).
  4. It is water-resistant to prevent water seeping through but it is also permeable to enable vapour to pass through from inside the building and prevent condensation forming in the air space.
  5. Its colouring is similar to the exposed side.
To avoid making the final cost of the Enclosure more expensive, this Mortar will only be used in the Normal Section of the Enclosure, i.e. it will not be used for gluing the Correction tiles to the Structure.

To glue the Correction tiles to the Structure (Formwork and Pillars), will be used a more specific Mortar for this type of work, and one which must have a high level of Adherence and Flexibility. For this purpose, the PUMA GROUP manufactures a Type C2 TE mortar, which meets the necessary requirements for this application.
